CDI - BCD

BCD

Library and Documentation Centre

The BCD, created especially for pupils in elementary school, serves as a multifunctional space within the school. It functions not only as a study and research area, but also as a central hub where pupils may read, borrow books, conduct research, engage in discussions, and relax.

The library possesses a compilation of 16,397 documents and subscribes to 30 press publications in both French and English. The operating hours are from Monday to Friday.

Every elementary school class has a weekly time slot in the BCD, where pupils have the opportunity to borrow three documents for a duration of two weeks and participate in a range of activities.

The library is overseen by a librarian who provides:

  • a wide range of documents to meet the specific needs of students, teachers and non-teaching staff alike
  • sessions adapted to the different levels of students
  • readings of texts in line with school curricula, or to introduce students to new works
  • media and information education (EMI) sessions
  • image education sessions (cinema) as part of the PEAC program
  • develop dialogue and debate on important issues (harassment, children’s rights, etc.)
  • Activities aimed at fostering pupils’ understanding of diverse cultures and promoting their intellectual curiosity include exhibitions, literary awards, international news updates (such as commemorating the conclusion of the Great War), and high school news updates (such as French High School Week).
    The objective is to cultivate and strengthen the practice of reading in children at a young age, by promoting their exposure to a diverse range of reading materials and fostering the creation of numerous written works.

In addition, the library provides two clubs: The Lecture Club and the Cinema Club.

CDI

The CDI is accessible to pupils, subject matter teachers, and school staff. The place serves as a hub for exploration, productivity, reading, and education, with the primary objectives of:

  • Promoting and fostering reading;
  • Cultivating critical thinking abilities;
  • Training pupils in documentary research;
  • Providing media education training in collaboration with teachers from all subject areas;
  • Providing an extensive array of documentary resources tailored to the specific requirements of pupils and teaching staff;
  • Providing a cultural and educational monitoring system, including events, exhibitions, and partnerships with cultural and artistic institutions;
  • Fostering connections between the school and its educational, cultural, and professional surroundings through exhibitions, meetings, and events.

The CDI offers a wide range of literary genres including novels, theatre plays, poetry, and documentaries. Additionally, it provides a collection of comics, graphic novels, and manga. Furthermore, there are numerous periodicals available that we have subscribed to.

As a cultural venue, the CDI frequently organises exhibitions, which may be themed or feature students’ work.
